Our next baptism is scheduled for May 12th.
Get Baptized!
Baptism is one of the ways we connect ourselves to Jesus, the story of the Gospel, and the millions of Christians all over the world that have been getting baptized for thousands of years.
Jesus was baptized himself, so by getting baptized, we’re simply doing what Jesus did. Baptism also symbolizes and tells the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection. When we go under the water, we’re dying with Jesus, and rising again. Paul and Peter (1 Peter 3:20-21) also connect baptism to the people of Israel who were baptized by walking through the Red Sea (1 Cor 10:1-2), and Noah and his family who were baptized in the Flood.
It’s a public ceremony, like marriage or graduation, where we publicly tell others that we’re committed to Christ and that we believe the gospel. It’s something that every Christian should do. Just like you can be married but never have a public ceremony, you can be a Christian without the public ceremony of baptism, but something very important is missing.
Just like marriage is a community and collective event for the whole community to affirm, witness and support the couple, in the same way baptism is a community and collective event for the whole community to affirm, witness and support the new Christian. It’s very important for every couple to have some type of public wedding ceremony even if it’s in front of only a few witnesses. Similarly it’s very important for every Christian to be baptized even if it's in front of only a few witnesses.
Maybe you don’t want to be baptized because it’s too public of an event and you don’t want a hundred people at your event. I think that’s perfectly fine. The Ethiopian eunuch was baptized with only Philip present (Acts 8:38) as long as you are willing to be baptized by a pastor and you’re willing for that baptism to be public knowledge. It is not supposed to be a secretive thing. The church would love to be present to support you and witness the event, but if that’s not you, we can talk through that portion.
